Pratt Area Community Council Honors SBLS Housing Unit for Service and Support
The Pratt Area Community Council (PACC), a community development organization active in Brooklyn, recently recognized the South Brooklyn Legal Services Housing unit with for its support and outreach to Brooklynites in cooperation with PACC.
The award was presented at PACC’s annual community appreciation event, where the presenters said that SBLS’s “commitment to this community is immense.”
“They volunteer their services monthly at our legal clinic and go on to represent a number of people who come to PACC with housing difficulties. Beyond that, they offer guidance and training to the Community Organizing Staff and assistance on our organizing campaigns,” the presenters stated.
Elana Schneyer, Director of Organizing at PACC, added that SBLS is like a lifeline for the organization and their community. She thanked the Housing Unit for always being willing to answer questions and provide guidance.
“It was an honor to receive this award from PACC,” said Michael Weisberg, Deputy Director of the SBLS Housing Unit. “Their dedication to the rights of tenants in Brooklyn is unparalleled. Working with them to prevent evictions and enforce tenants’ rights has helped us to make a larger impact then we would otherwise be able.”
SBLS attorneys Rachel Hannaford, Carrie Johnson, and Jane Landry were all grateful for the honor. Hannaford will next be at PACC on July 16.
