How to Stop Telemarketing Calls (and Telemarketing Scams)

Amazingly enough, you can stop those annoying telephone calls you get from people selling things – you know the ones that always seem to come around supper time. And, if you don’t get telemarketing calls, you cannot be the victim of a telemarketing scam.

There is now a National “Do Not Call” Registry. Thirty-one days after you register, most telemarketing calls will be banned. There is no charge for putting your phone number on the Registry. You may still receive calls from some organizations that are not covered by the “Do Not Call” rule such as charities, politicians, and companies that you have dealt with before. But the great majority of calls should stop.

To register, go to www.donotcall.gov

You can file complaints at the same address.

BY PHONE: Call 1-888-382-1222 (from the number you wish to register). Registration is free.
