SSI/Disability Rights

The SSI (Supplemental Security Income) and Disability Rights Unit helps people with problems involving:

  • SSI benefits
  • Denial of access or transportation to people who are mobility-impaired.
  • Other discrimination against people with disabilities.

SBLS generally does not provide representation in employment discrimination cases. To find out about getting advice and referral in these cases, click on Employment.

If you are eligible and have an SSI problem, call our SSI hotline at (718) 237-5562 Monday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm. Please note that our hotline is unavailable until the Monday after Labor Day, September 13, 2010.

For a special education problem, call Nancy Bedard at (718) 237-5568 or 246-3277 on Friday between 9:00 am and 2:00 pm. For a disability rights problem, call Johnson Tyler at (718) 237-5548 any weekday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
